There is a new diet in town and it’s called Intermittent Fasting (IF for short). I first became aware of this diet after reading a blog called LeanGains.com. The basic idea of IF is that you fast for 16 hours followed by 8 hours of ‘feeding’. This combined with weight training allows your body to lose fat whilst retaining or building lean muscle mass.
If you are familiar with weight training then you will probably be thinking that this goes against everything the so called weight training ‘gurus’ have been preaching for years. Normally, an average weight lifter would try to eat five to six high protein meals spread throughout the day to prevent the body from going into ‘starvation mode’. With the IF diet, the body does not receive any kind of nourishment for the first 16 hours of the day. If you read the LeanGains.com blog you will learn the science behind the IF diet. It actually makes a lot of sense why the IF diet work so well. If you look at some of the case studies on the website you will see some of the dramatic transformations.
I am really intrigued about this diet and I am seriously considering implementing it alongside my FBF diet. I like to experiment with my diet and training so I may even do a case study in the next couple of weeks.
